BREAKING NEWS! — A high ranking official of Olympia Indivisible has been outed as a TRAINED AGENT PROVOCATEUR. Claiming to be a “simple” fiddle player, she has become a leader in the organization. It is now said she was trained and placed here by that evil and nefarious organization – the League of Women Voters…details to follow.
Did you recognize this as FAKE NEWS????? I am sure you did, read on!
OI members Carolyn Barclift and Glen Hubbard invite you (yes, you!) to join them for our third gathering of Olympia Indivisible’s Creative Conversations series. These informal gatherings are hosted by members of Olympia Indivisible. Our goal is to create a space for sharing and the creative exploration of ideas. It’s a chance to engage in a discussion which is alive, interesting and spontaneous. A place to explore issues, ask questions, share ideas, and…eat cookies. Yes. Let’s eat some cookies!
So just to get the ball rolling, Carolyn and Glen invite you to consider a response to this very relevant question in the 2018 election cycle:
What is fake news?
This question begs many more questions that will prove to contribute to a lively and meaningful conversation. Do I know how to spot fake news? Is there way that I can counter what I see as fake news?
Carolyn has the background be able to steer the conversation to productive ends. In fact, she will bring some actual examples to provoke thought as we explore fake news and its impact.
So, think about your own biases and emotions and come join us in conversation. You’ll be better prepared to consume news in a steady, thoughtful and vigilant way as we approach the 2018 midterm elections.
As Carolyn said….. Make liberal use of the delete key…..
Date: Wednesday Jan 31 7-9 PM
