How long will we be complacent?
How long till it’s ‘too far’ and we demand change? And how have we not already passed that point? Honest question: What is it going to take?
Call. Write. Confront. Repeat.
STOP THE MADNESS
Today’s Daily Action is to call your Senator at 844-241-1141 and ask them what they plan to do to stop Trump from starting a war with North Korea. First, remind them that the Constitutional power to declare war lies exclusively with Congress. This is true regardless of who the President is and whether he feels like declaring war and changing military readiness policy via Twitter and impromptu press availabilities. If Congress wants a diplomatic option rather than one in which millions would die, they need to act fast.
Second, the current Commander in Chief is unhinged: His need for a so-far elusive political victory. His quick-to-anger emotional state even on good days. His casual musings that “a nuclear holocaust would be like no other” and threats of “fire and fury.” It is irresponsible for our Congress to look the other way and pretend that we don’t have a madman in the Oval Office. *We* as citizens are allowed to point to a problem and then bring it to our elected officials to fix. They – and specifically the Congress – are NOT allowed to point at a problem and then do nothing. Get them on the record – what will they do to stop this madman from beginning a slaughter “like the world has never seen”?
Is it an awkward call? Yes, but what could possibly be more important? What “victory” looks like: preventing another Cuban Missile Crisis situation before it ever begins.
