Today’s action is in response to Trump’s pledge of unending war in Afghanistan. Full disclosure: I can’t stomach watching his speeches, though I read the transcript, available here: http://www.npr.org/…/watch-live-trump-s-address-on-afghanis…
ACTION:
Call our members of congress and tell them Congress must reassert its Constitutional duty and require the President to obtain Congressional approval before escalating the war in Afghanistan.
SCRIPT:
This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP].
Trump’s plan for Afghanistan is a blank check with no ceiling on troops or timeline for withdrawal. It is long past time to update the 2001 AUMF. Congress must reassert its authority to authorize any escalation of the war in Afghanistan (or for that matter, any other military action) by the president. Congress reasserting its war authority is especially urgent with an inexperienced and erratic president like Trump.
