Candlelight Vigil to Remember Vaneesa Hopson

February 7 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PST

Thursday, February 7, 2019 marks one year without white, Disabled, Mother, Sister, friend, Poverty Scholar, and Loved One, Vaneesa Hopson. One year ago Vaneesa was in a mental health crisis and needed help. Instead of helping, Olympia poLice and local paramedics used “chemical restraints,” and violently ended Vaneesa’s life. Vaneesa Hopson should be alive.

Vaneesa’s family would like for us to join them and gather outside the downtown Olympia poLice station in remembrance of Vaneesa. Please bring candles as we will light them as the sun goes down, we will bear witness, listen and share stories about Vaneesa, and collectively bring love for her.

if it is not raining (or snowing!) there will be chalk and we will chalk the sidewalks bringing love for Vaneesa and all Loved Ones lost to poLice violence.

We invite you to bring a friend, and to leave this gathering having connected with someone you didn’t know.

if you cannot attend this event, please light a candle for Vaneesa, or write her name in a heart. you could post a photo on this event page. thank you
