Here are some great talking points compiled by Citizens for a Health Bay: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_ePg1gEPUoIgKWT9XQ0y3oE30wSSw5v7pCUZrm64Gq8/edit?usp=sharing&link_id=1&can_id=616ac4332fb7ca5bf846ef8d4f15bf67&source=email-tomorrow-strengthen-interim-regs&email_referrer=&email_subject=tomorrow-strengthen-interim-regs
In November 2017, the City of Tacoma passed interim regulations to protect the Tacoma Tideflats from new fossil fuel and heavy industrial uses. These interim regulations will expire unless they are extended by the City Council in November 2018 and every six months after that, with May 2020 next.
The long-term plan is being developed in the “Subarea Planning Process”, which will take years. Basically the City will be making rules about where different types of industry may be located in the port. To prevent new industries from establishing themselves in the port before these new rules are made, the City passed the interim regulations discussed above.
Each time the interim regulations come to be renewed, we apply pressure to have them reinstated and strengthened to ban any expansion by current fossil fuel uses such as US Oil, SeaPort Sound Terminal (formerly Targa), Philips 66 and of course the Puget Sound Energy LNG facility.
