Encampment Eviction Support for 7th & Jefferson
January 30 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm PST
We know it was not even two days ago that we released the news about the upcoming eviction of B Ave and broadcast an ask for eviction support. It is disheartening that we are having to ask again, so soon, for the community’s support for encampment residents being evicted from another site.
Residents at the encampment on 7th and Jefferson received an eviction notice on Friday the 25th and are being given until Wednesday, January 30th to move.
Eviction/moving day is always chaotic and often fairly traumatic for those trying to save their possessions and survival gear at the last moment.
We will be present at the encampment, starting at 8 am and will stay until the eviction is over (likely until around 11 or 12). The encampment is located at the intersection of 7th & Jefferson along the railroad tracks.
We are in need of folks who can be present to help people pack & carry items, folks with cars who can help transport people and their belongings to new locations, and folks who can be present as witnesses and emotional supports. People who can bring items like food, coffee, water, dry clothing/blankets/sleeping bags, and tents are also needed. At this point, there is no rain in the forecast, but we want to be prepared in case that changes and people and their belongings become soaked during the move. It’s also likely that even with help present, there will be people who will lose survival gear and need new items.
