Extreme Makeover: Reimagining the Port of Tacoma
September 14 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm PDT
Join us for this FREE art workshop to reimagine the Port of Tacoma as a healthy ecosystem. University of Washington Tacoma professor Beverly Naidus and other artful activists will be facilitating this powerful event to help us use art to express our hopes.
Participants will be able to collage, draw or paint their dreams for the Port’s future. After the images are made we will digitize them so that they can be projected on buildings in Tacoma to inspire a wider public to reimagine our port free of fossil fuels, healed from toxins via permaculture design, resilient to the rising sea levels, filled with eco-art and truly green forms of energy, with a restored Puyallup estuary.
All art supplies are provided. This is a monthly workshop and is open to the public.
Interdisciplinary artist Beverly Naidus makes art about challenging issues that affect her community, often to inspire strategies for transforming those challenges. She has taught at UW Tacoma where she facilitates an innovative, interdisciplinary program in art for social change. She is author of the book, Arts for Change: Teaching Outside the Frame.
