Farmers across Washington State are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprints, while also preparing their farms to be more flexible and adaptive to a changing climate. As farmers make the push for sustainability, they are helping shape a better future for themselves, their families, and our local communities.
But making the switch to these new systems can be intimidating, and navigating all the technical and financial pieces to pull off a successful project is often a tall order.
That’s why organizations like the Thurston Conservation District and the Rural Energy Development for Washington Program exist, to help local farmers and rural business owners with free technical and grant writing assistance to install climate adaptive practices, like rooftop solar, cover cropping, and integrated pest management.
Educators will share about available renewable energy and energy efficiency options and talk you through some of the incentives and grants that are available to help implement projects on your own farm or rural small business.
