Eric Chandler will be giving his presentation:FUNGUS AMUNGUS…The Ecological Role of Mycoflora, a.k.a., MushroomsThis presentation was given to the students of the Ecology Program at the Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA on 15 JAN 2020. To begin with, it Introduces and explains the “North American Mycoflora Project (NAMP)” as well as the SSMC’s own South Sound “Special” Projects that support NAMP’s goals of identifying and documenting National and Regional Fungi. To that end it gives explanation relative to the “Duties” a Citizen Scientist & Amateur Mycologist are expected to fulfill when finding and cataloging Pacific NW fungi. So as to show the wealth and variety of specimens available to “Fungal Hunters”, this presentation also introduces and shows examples of the Primary Fungus Groups found in the Pacific NW. It then focuses on the Fungal Life Cycle, followed by an explanation of the “Eco-system Roles” performed by Fungi and their importance to the “health” of both the Flora and Fauna around us. Throughout the presentation there are 60 photos shown, most of which were taken “in sutu” during Eric and Jen Chandler’s multitudinous mushroom hunts through out the Puget Sound Region. The presentation closes with a mysterious, but true story that the Chandler’s experienced at a park near Mount Rainier.Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
