LRR First Fall Gathering
October 7 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm PDT
The greater community of South Puget Sound is invited to join the continuing search for appropriate expressions of right relationships with the original people of the Salish Sea.
Each LRR gathering includes a break to share food prepared by those attending, including salmon from one of the local tribes. Please bring a healthy snack to share, and $5 suggested donation for speakers.
For our Fall Gathering Series, we will be grounding ourselves in the history of native peoples of this continent. To support this effort, we encourage attendees to read Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz’s An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States. We will begin our first Gathering with readings from historical accounts.
We then warmly welcome Elizabeth and Robert Satiacum, who will be presenting about their journey as native people living in native and non-native communities.
Elizabeth believes in the immense power of love, and the critical role of “sharing” as a foundation for building community. In addition to presenting on the Medicine Wheel, she will share examples of her creative ability to work with the gifts of the CedarTree. Her work with the natural world includes the creation of baskets, cedar weaving, jewelry making and other crafts.
Robert will share his learnings about the sacred nature of life and the way he has served native people as a healer and spiritual leader. He’ll speak about the coming together of all people, and the important place of non-natives in turning the environmental degradation toward a more sustainable way of living.
We will close with a discussion about the meaningful ways we can work together here and now. Please join us!
