“Nuclear Weapons: Updates on the Crisis and Opportunities”
February 3 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm PST
An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on Monday, repeating until February 24, 2020
The February 2020 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series (also watchable anytime through Glen Anderson’s blog, www.parallaxperspectives.org) provides information about nuclear weapons that most people do not know.
The same three guests for the December 2019 program (Bob Delastrada, Joanne Dufour and Mark Fleming) discussed nuclear weapons further for our February 2020 program. This is PART 2 after December’s PART 1, but either program can be watched independently. December’s PART 1 program provided rich, interesting information about nuclear weapons during the Cold War and after that. Much of the factual information will be new to most people, since the government and news media were horribly negligent about informing the public about the frightening realities. We also discussed important psychological aspects from the Cold War era and efforts for disarmament. Our conversation provided new information about Trump’s radical changes. We ended December’s PART 1 program with fascinating, inspiring efforts that convinced the United Nations General Assembly to pass their mid-2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Nations are in the process of ratifying it, but all of the nations with nuclear weapons oppose it, despite their commitment to eliminate them based on the 1970 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
February’s PART 2 examines the entrenched and powerful military-industrial complex, which includes elected officials and economic factors. We devoted much of February’s program to further examining the general public’s relevant feelings (fear, overwhelm, powerlessness, etc.) and how to overcome these debilitating feelings. The growing movement to abolish nuclear weapons creates many exciting new opportunities. We also considered the needs and values that ground us in our efforts. We can build upon those needs and values so we can make more progress toward abolishing nuclear weapons. Finally we proposed several strategically practical ways for people to make progress, and we considered federal legislation and the five smart, necessary points in the “Back from the Brink” peace plan.
Please visit the “TV Programs” and the “Nuclear Weapons” parts of my blog, www.parallaxperspectives.org, where I have posted BOTH of the videos (December and February) and thorough summaries of what we said during BOTH interviews. Each of the thorough summaries ends with an excellent list of links to additional information. See below.
