are you NEW TO SURJ, or do you have a desire to GO BACK TO OUR SURJ basics and CORE VALUES? please arrive a half hour early to participate in our new member orientation from 6-6:30.
For this month’s meeting, we will report back on current projects happening at the moment, such as: no new jails/prisons, Justice for Yvonne, Keep Zahid Home, and more. We will leave space for announcements from the community as well, and will end with an optional opportunity to check in 1:1.
SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals working to undermine white supremacy and to work toward racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.
We work to connect people while supporting and collaborating with local and national racial justice organizing efforts. SURJ provides a space to build relationships, skills and political analysis to act for change. the Olympia SURJ chapter is a multi-racial group striving to put white people in motion to fight white supremacy. We are accountable to many people, we are accountable to BIPOC-led organizations and Justice Struggles, we are accountable to each other, and we are accountable to our community, which includes YOU.
There will be lots of updates on work happening and ways to plug in or get in motion. We will be talking about the work being done with our core organizers, general membership, and accountability partners. There will be teachings and opportunities to TAKE RISKS, connect with each other and build trust. There’s lots of work to do so please join us in showing up for racial justice.
Our General Meetings offer an opportunity to share events, announcements and work that folks might not know about. Bring a friend and/or try to connect with someone you haven’t yet met during tonight’s gathering. Bring your wallet as you will learn about ways to make reparations and contribute to needs of our BIPOC community members. We continue to grow deeper connections, by getting to know each other, building with each other, and sharing strategy by asking and sharing “How are you? How’s your family? What have you done today to fight white supremacy?”
Our core organizers also hold additional meetings throughout the month. There are lots of opportunities to become more involved. if you are interested in becoming a core organizer or a more involved general member, please contact us. Core organizers and active members make sure the meetings happen!
