olympia SURJ Sept 2019 general mtg POT LUCK
September 23 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
Showing Up for Racial Justice – SURJ – is a national network of groups and individuals working to undermine white supremacy and to work toward racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.
We work to connect people across the country while supporting and collaborating with local and national racial justice organizing efforts. SURJ provides a space to build relationships, skills and political analysis to act for change
Our olympia SURJ chapter hosts monthly GENERAL MEETINGS the fourth Monday of each month, with Pot Luck gatherings happening quarterly. September brings another POTLUCK and you are invited! Please bring a dish to share if you are able, or attend hungry, there will be plenty of food. Invite a friend and/or try to connect with someone you haven’t yet met during tonight’s gathering. We continue to grow deeper connections, by getting to know each other, building trust, and sharing strategy by asking and sharing “How are you? How’s your family? What have you done today to fight white supremacy?”
Monday, September 23rd is also the first day of the Federal Court, Excessive Force trial in Tacoma, in support of Justice for André Thomson and Bryson Chaplin, against the City of Olympia and Olympia poLice terrorist/officer Ryan Donald. Today will have been jury selection. There will be updates from the courtroom and ways to support the Chaplin-Thompson family. Our local surj chapter kickstarted as a response to the racist police shooting of André and Bryson. We continue to be in an accountability relationship with the Chaplin-Thompson family, taking action. Please join us and hold André and Bryson in our hearts as they navigate The retraumatizing System
