Rescheduled—Tacoma DSA Reading Group

February 18 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm PST

UPDATE: Due to weather conditions, this month’s reading group is pushed one week ahead to Monday the 18th at 7:30 (not the usual time of 7).

Join the TDSA Reading Group on February *18th* as we discuss this month’s topic, “The Strike”.

With a wave of inspiring teacher strikes sweeping the country and the one-hundredth anniversary of the Seattle General Strike coming up, it’s a great time to talk about the strike as a concept.

There’s no doubt that the strike is the most powerful weapon in the working class arsenal. So why has it been so absent for so long? 2017 had the second-smallest number of major strikes in recorded history. That trend could be reversing, with educators leading the way as we witnessed for ourselves here in Washington. But we have a long way to go before we can shut down a major city down for six days. What can we learn from the organizing efforts of our predecessors that still applies in a much different environment?

The pieces below delve into these questions and many more. Please read beforehand and come prepared for a lively discussion with comrades. The meetings are always on the second Monday of the month, so if you can’t make this one, save the date and catch the next one!
