Join Tacoma DSA and UW’s Prof. James Gregory for a special presentation on the reissue of Robert Freidheim’s classic history of the 1919 Seattle General Strike. Jim will be joining us at King’s Books at 6pm, before TDSA’s regular monthly meeting, for a reading followed by a discussion. Copies of the new book will be available, including a new introduction, photo essay, and afterward by Prof. Gregory.
James N. Gregory is a professor of History and former director of the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies at the University of Washington. He is the author of numerous articles and prize-winning books, including The Southern Diaspora: How the Great Migrations of Black and White Southerners Transformed America and American Exodus: The Dust Bowl Migration and Okie Culture in California.
Most recently, the University of Washington Press published The Seattle General Strike: Centennial Edition with an introduction, photo essay, and afterword by James Gregory.
Digital public history has been a consuming focus for the last decade. He directs the Seattle Civil Rights & Labor History Project and other web resources that explore the history of the Pacific Northwest. The Mapping American Social Movements Through the 20th Century Project is his newest online enterprise.
