Women Vote NOW: Honoring Suffragists of Color

Educating ourselves and the public on the courageous women of color who walked the intersection of abolition and suffrage, race and gender, to win the goal of the right to vote for women in 1920. Full access was denied many over the decades. Learn about laws affecting true suffrage as recently as last elections.
We will show short video bios of some suffragists of color and some poems or writing excerpts of them as well. Participating guests and readers include Ava Underwood, Dr. Karen Johnson, Talauna Reed, and Cheryl Wapes’a Mayes. Mary Hall, County Auditor, will also give a brief review of new voter access for young people.
