The U.S. Constitution ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES a census that will count EVERY person in the U.S. Presumably, it must be HONEST. But Trump is planning to distort the 2020 census for blatantly racist and highly partisan purposes. Trump is planning to add a question about citizenship in order to intimidate and undercount America’s immigrants.

Trump’s scheme would likely cause millions of persons to be uncounted. The census is used for figuring out how to draw lines for state legislative districts and federal congressional districts. By deliberately undercounting immigrants, Trump intends to prevent adequate electoral representation for the people who live in their districts. The census also is used for allocating governmental services and financial support to local communities. For all of these reasons, immigrants’ communities will fail to receive the services they need.
For example, one advocacy group stated: “An undercount in the census will impact the programs young people rely on as we build our adult lives, including health care assistance like CHIP and Medicaid, programs that help people out of poverty like SNAP and TANF, and Congressional representation in the House of Representatives.”
Trump’s first choice to run the Census Bureau admitted that the question is politically motivated. Also, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (whose agency would conduct the census) recently contradicted earlier statements to Congress about where the question originated.
Here is an article about Trump’s citizenship question on the 2020 Census:
The problem is persisting – even after a judge told Trump to provide info about Census question about citizenship:

Tell Trump – and Congress – and the Commerce Dept. – that the U.S. Constitution REQUIRES an ACCURATE census. Trump is blatantly and cynically trying to manipulate and distort the 2020 census by requiring a question about citizenship. He wants to intimidate non-citizens and deliberately undercount people (including non-citizens and naturalized citizens) who might be afraid to declare their citizenship status. VIGOROUSLY DEMAND that a SCRUPULOUSLY HONEST AND ACCURATE census in 2020.
Below I have posted links for five messages you can send to PROTECT the 2020 Census from abuse. Please click all five of the links and send messages to all of the people who have power over this.
#1: Urge Congress to prevent Trump’s citizenship question from abusing the 2020 census:
#2: Submit a comment to the Dept. of Commerce. Demand removal of the “citizenship” question. In mid-June 2018 the Department of Commerce has initiated a 60-day public comment period on their misguided decision to add a citizenship question to this 2020 Census. This gives Americans a chance to help establish a strong, clear public record reflecting the broad public opposition to the Trump administration’s politically motivated and destructive decision. We need you to make your voice heard. Use this link to submit a comment telling the Dept. of Commerce to prevent a citizenship question from the 2020 census:
#3: Common Cause is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy. They have worked since 1970 to create open, honest, and accountable government that serves the public interest; promote equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all; and empower all people to make their voices heard in the political process.
