Holiday plan: The Action Team is going to try to take the next two weeks off for the holiday. In theory, there will be no Call to Action for the next two weeks. In real life, we don’t know what unexpected thing will be coming out of Washington DC. We have a plan in place to meet each of those weeks if we feel it sufficiently urgent and get a Call to Action out. Enjoy your holidays and we’ll see you at this Friday’s Oly Indivisible celebration at Lisa’s house! (see below)
There are increasing rumors that Trump may fire Robert Mueller next week. All Indivisible groups, as well as other progressive groups, were asked to put together a plan for that possibility months ago – this is just a reminder to you that we have a plan and are ready to go.Should Mueller be fired, “No One Is Above The Law” rallies will begin hours after news breaks of a Mueller firing:
- If Mueller is fired BEFORE 2 P.M. local time —>events will begin @ 5 P.M. local time.
- If Mueller is fired AFTER 2 P.M. local time —>events will begin @ noon local time the following day
We will gather in front of the Insurance Commissioner’s Office Bldg. 302 Sid Snyder Ave SW. We will then spread out on the sidewalk on both sides of Capitol Way to wave our signs.
This is the general plan—check for any additional details on Olympia Indivisible’s event page on Facebook or the Internet. Our event may be tailored differently than other events. Any plan updates will be posted on OlympiaIndivisible.com, OI FB Page, OI Twitter and OI email.
This is our moment to stand up to protect our democracy. Let’s mobilize to show that we won’t let Donald Trump become the authoritarian that he aspires to be. The law applies to all of us, and it’s essential that it also applies to the most powerful people in our country.
This week, please take the time to prepare your “Political Earthquake Response Kit” for this “No One Is Above the Law” event. Given our weather, and that it may be dark out if we protest in the evening, things to consider for your kit:
Cell phone (charged) & portable battery chargers, rain gear including an umbrella, flashlight, healthy snacks/water, and your signs. Also, consider keeping 5 phone numbers for your friends. We hope you’ll give those friends a call when this is on and ask them to join us.
We recommend you give this podcast a listen (it also has a text version of the interview available). Author/Report Luke Harding discusses his new book on Collusion, as it applies to the USA’s current status and President Trump:
Journalist Investigating Trump and Russia Says ‘Full Picture is One of Collusion’. This is an NPR podcast, the interview of Luke Harding, Guardian reporter, and author of the new book, Collusion.Collusion can be obtained from Amazon for $10.17
Ever since Trump removed DACA protections last fall, Democrats have said they will use the leverage they have in the passing of the 2018 budget to reinstate DACA protections. The “continuing resolution” budget expires Friday. Now is the time, the last opportunity, fir our MoC’s to follow through and insist on the budget fix for DACA. If the Republicans refuse, the Democrats should not vote for the budget and shut down the government.
Action: Call Murray, Cantwell and Heck and insist they vote NO on the 2018 budget if there is no DACA fix. Last week the Continuing Resolution for the budget was passed. Going into the vote, we asked our MOCs to insist on legislation (the DREAM ACT) to protect these young people as part of the budget resolution. We asked our MOCs to do everything possible including shutting down the government if this is not remedied.
Call each of our Members of Congress:
Congressman Denny Heck: 360-459-8514
Senator Maria Cantwell: 206-220-6400
Senator Patty Murray: 206-553-5545
My name is _________________. I am a District 10 Voter and a member of Olympia Indivisible.
I am calling to ask that you stand for DACA and do not vote for the budget unless DACA legislation is included, even if it means shutting down the government.
I want to know what you are going to do on the next vote on the CR Dec. 22. Will you do as you promised or will you continue to appease the Republicans?
I am calling to urge Congressman Heck to do everything possible, including shutting down the government if necessary, to pass legislation that protects DACA recipients.
Hold Trump Responsible For His Actions Toward Women
Stand with women who’ve been unwillingly touched, groped, and kissed by the president.
ACTION: Call your 2 senators and 1 House Rep (local offices) (look up).
Hi, I read that a congressional hearing has been requested by the many women who have been sexually harassed by the president. I would like [name] to allow this hearing to take place–and soon. Where does s/he stand on this

Historian Timothy Snyder wrote On Tyranny: 20 Lessons from the 20th Century during the Trump campaign, foreseeing Trump as a potent source of homegrown authoritarianism. His wise, succinct book clarifies what is happening here at home and begins to illuminate a path forward from it. On Tyranny is a slim book that fits alongside your pocket Constitution and feels only slightly less vital. Setting our current history against the backdrop of the rise of fascism and authoritarianism in central and eastern Europe in the 20th century, Snyder writes with bracing immediacy, providing 20 plain and mostly actionable lessons on pushing back against and preventing the repression of lives and minds.
