Be Prepared to Shut Down the Government. This Friday (Jan. 14th) is the Deadline.
This week by midnight Friday, Congress has to pass a budget or shut down the government. It is uncertain if an agreement on DACA can be reached, especially after the president’s antics last week. We know that shutting down the government is costly and can impact families, but it is also the only recourse left (if necessary) for issues that are this important. We demand action on three critical issues:
- A clean DACA Bill that protects the Dreamers now!
- Full Funding for CHIP, the Children’s Health Program.
- Realistic, effective help for Puerto Rico. Over 1.5 million people are still without power.
ACTION 1: Call our senators and insist on legislation to protect DACA recipients as part of the budget resolution
Call our Senators:
This is the crucial message our senators need to hear again. We need to be a constant moral presence that these actions are absolutely the right thing to do, even if the government needs to be shut down.
- Senator Maria Cantwell (253)572-2281
- Senator Patty Murray (253)572-3636
Script for Murray and Cantwell:
My name is ____________, and I am a member of Olympia Indivisible. I am calling because I want Senator __________ to insist on legislation to protect DACA recipients as part of the budget resolution. In addition, I want full funding for CHIP to protect vulnerable children and more aid for Puerto Rico. I am asking the Senator to do everything possible including shutting down the government in order to help Dreamers, children and our citizens in Puerto Rico Thank you.
