The Trump administration intends to add a question to the 2020 census about citizenship. While the administration claims that information about citizenship will assist the Federal government in protecting minority rights, most observers believe that it will have the opposite effect: under-counting immigrants, potentially reducing their representation in Congress and federal funding for local jurisdictions, which is determined by population. There is little that Congress can do to reverse this action, so it is fortunate that several state attorney generals have announced their intention to sue the administration to block this action.
Our attorney general, Bob Ferguson, has announced his intention to join this litigation, and he deserves our thanks. He has been consistent in opposing several illegal actions by the Trump administration, and has a winning record in the courts. He deserves our thanks for this latest action and to know that we support his efforts.
ACTION: Call, go online, or send a postcard to WA State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, thanking him for challenging Citizenship question.

Hello, my name is ___________, and I am a member of Olympia Indivisible. Thank you for joining other states in filing lawsuits against the Trump administration decision to include a question about citizenship on the 2020 US census. That question is clearly intended to suppress representation of minorities in the next census, and is one more attempt by Republicans to deny funding to communities with sizeable minority populations and also to continue their attempts to retain political control through gerrymandering and denying voting rights to minorities. I support protecting everyone’s right to vote.
